GUERILLA TUTORIALS

In a recent survey it was revealed that students at Chelsea College of Art & Design want more tutorials with academic staff! As a result of Vanessa Scully’s Complaint Booth I am proposing a day of GUERILLA tutorials with the ART DOGS.

ART DOGS is a term coined by artist Liam Scully for an art pack operating in the now. A tutorial with one of the ART DOGS would specifically help a Fine Art student; however the tutorials are open to all disciplines across the Chelsea campus. Tutorials would result on a first come, first served basis. The tutorials can range between 30 minutes – 1 hour depending on the individual students needs.

FIRST ROUND OF ART DOGS TUTORS INCLUDE:

Simon Ould
Calum F. Kerr
Geraldine Ryan
Liam Scully
Kate Kotcheff
Alex Chappel
Marc Vaulbert de Chantilly

The Art Dogs Guerilla tutorials will be launched in collaboration with Cecila Wee’s project IF NOT THEN WHAT, in Chelsea Parade Ground, week starting 7th March 2011. Come visit us to sign up!

SIMON OULD

SIMON OULD
Painter/ Art Maker/ Walking Encyclopaedia/ Jobseeker

If you haven’t seen Simon Ould around you certainly haven’t been to many art private views. A big fan of the auto biography Simon talks on an astounding array of subjects – his large head occupied by a massive brain. People who have met him often do not know that he actually makes an incredible amount of art.

His art is spontaneous and raw using the cheapest materials to hand, found newspapers, post it notes, tin foil, old books, empty packets and beer cans to name just a few things. His talent for the immediate has often been the envy of his peers.

Education BA Fine Art, Camberwell College of Art 2003

KATE KOTCHEFF

KATE KOTCHEFF

Kate Kotcheff studied architecture at the Architectural Association and subsequently worked as a producer in music video, documentary and film. The main focus of her practice is photography, plus some performance and more recently drawing. Kate exhibited recently at the group show: East End Promise: A large archive based on East End artists and their work, plus she took part in the Rare Gifts show at The Residence Gallery. Kate is currently finishing a Fine Art degree at Sir John Cass/ London Met.

LIAM SCULLY

LIAM SCULLY

Champion amateur boxer before swapping his gloves for paint brushes, pencils, pastels, charcoal, voodoo, bits and bobs, whiskey and beer – Liam Scully coined the phrase art dogs. “It seemed an appropriate term for the group of artists I hang out with - see art dog manifesto at www.liamscully.blogspot.com.”

Studied BA fine art at Birmingham UCE and went on to an MA Fine Art at Chelsea before the college was made a University and occupied a fancy building. Recently held solo show “Culture Moved Forward While My Back Was Turned” at the launch of Model Gardeners and exhibits often in various shows in the U.K and abroad.

Predominately a dirty painter but also delves in performance, sculpture and video. Scully has featured as Jimmy MacJimmy in Rex Nemo and the psychic self defenders, a band that has been described as “under the influence of drugs this music is intolerable!” Also formed the DJ super-group Incredible Itchy Nipplez staring as the Outback Criminal.

In Saatchi Magazine Harry Pye recently included Liam Scully in his top 15 future greats, whether this will occur in the next 10 years or 110 years is yet to be seen but if you are seeking that certain edge in your work Scully could be the Tutor for you.

“If you wish to learn more about me, Google me.”

WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?

PROPOSAL: Complaint Booth

SITE: Chelsea Corridor

INTENTION:

PART 1: Source complaints from students (and or academic and general staff) around issues in the uni, course, studio, workshops and library. A list of objects and services will be obtained through this democratic action. A register, unique number and head shot will be collected for archiving purposes.

PART 2: I will bring this archive to life by materialising some if not all the objects and services. This show will be open by private invitation and word of mouth to all participating students in the COMPLAINT BOOTH.

LENGTH: 1 working day - 7 hours (or until booted out by management)
